HISTORY

The Moonta Model Aero Club (MMAC) is located off the Kadina to Moonta Road approximately 6km from Kadina (just follow the signs).  The Club moved to its present position in 1994 where it leases about 2 hectares of farming land.

MEMBERSHIP

MMAC is an affiliate Club of the Model Aeronautical Association of Australia (MAAA) which is the governing body for the sport of model aeronautics in Australia.

The Club has a membership of over 40.  Members range in age from early teenagers to over 80 years old.  Most members live in surrounding towns, however some come from as far afield as Maitland, Port Broughton and even Adelaide.

As the development pressures on Adelaide metropolitan clubs  increase with resulting restrictions on flying activities, country clubs such as MMAC which is encumbered with few flying restraints, will become more attractive to City dwellers.

CLUB FACILITIES

MMAC offers excellent facilities and is seen as one of the leading model aircraft clubs in the State.  A comfortably furnished clubhouse is equipped with a BBQ, slow combustion heating and a pressurised rainwater supply.  A paved flight line allows ample space for pilots to prepare their models for flying and a substantial area of artificial turf gives a great area for members to display their models.  The pits area is protected with two large shadecloth covered frames.  Two shadecloth sails give sun protection to the artificial turf areas.

ACTIVITIES

Model flying takes place on Saturdays and Sundays (weather permitting).  Additionally, many members take advantage of the less busy skies by flying during the week.  On good flying days it is usual to see many members at the Club.  All visiting pilots affiliated with MAAA are welcome to fly at the Club.

MMAC hosts a number of days for other SA Clubs during the year including a Scale Day when members of the Scale Aircraft Society thrill spectators with their beautifully prepared scale modes.  Another annual event is the Coppercoast Rotorfest in S.A, where registrants from Clubs from across the State congregate for a great day of model flying.

FLYING TRAINING

Flying training is provided by MAAA endorsed Club Instructors who give their services on a voluntary basis.  Introductory dual control flights are available for prospective new members or other interested persons.
